Hi, I am Robert West, and I’ve had a love for all animals, especially dogs, since early childhood. My parents owned many dogs over the years that I was growing up at home.

My father would adopt them from the local rescue shelter. As you can imagine, the temperament of some of the dogs he brought home was quiet wild.  Others were very timid and frightened of their own shadow. Many were the unfortunate victims of abuse or neglect.

He would use what seemed like magic to me at the time, to obedience train each animal. Within months, he would have even the wildest, most out of control dog, walking obediently by his side.

Once trained, the dog would be sold or sometimes given to a responsible owner that could look after the animal properly, and show it all the love and attention it deserved. A few of the most special ones we would kept as our own pet.

Immediately he had finished training one dog, he would be back to the animal shelter choosing another, on which to start the whole process again,

When I was a teenager, Dad passed on his considerable knowledge of dog training too me. At the time, I was studying journalism at collage and would use many of the tips and stories Dad had told me to get freelance articles published in local newspapers.
